Former market operators turned consultants and operators

Roberta Cosentino
  • As a first-generation Italian-American, co-founder Roberta Cosentino’s food story begins with daily family meals and the end of summers marked by tomato canning. While earning her degree in Anthropology and Sociology, Roberta lived for several months with soybean farmers in rural Argentina. There she learned how industrial food production impacts local culture and local food systems. She worked as a Program Evaluator and Researcher in government and non-profit before making her way to Chester County, PA. Following her passion for food, Roberta spent seven years growing and managing a Mobile Market program and eventually lead a department of several healthy food access programs. Roberta serves on the Leadership Committee of the Mobile Market Coalition and is Chair of the Research Committee. She has personally visited several mobile market operations throughout the country and has helped to develop best practices in mobile market operations. Roberta lives in Coatesville, PA and also works in local government, continuing to advocate for her community.

  • Max Kulp, Co-Founder

Max Kulp is a farmer, food access advocate, and co-founder of The Best Route. Though he didn’t start his career as a grower, Max’s roots run deep—he comes from a farming family and developed a strong connection to local food from an early age.

After two years of AmeriCorps service—living on SNAP benefits and working directly with underserved communities—Max pursued a graduate degree in Sustainable Development. An internship on an oyster aquaculture farm introduced him to mobile programming and showed him how food systems can be built to serve both producers and consumers.

For seven years, Max led mobile food pantries and markets for two regional food banks, gaining hands-on experience designing and operationalizing food access programs in high-need communities. Along the way, he built and trained diverse teams, forged community partnerships, and became a strong advocate for equitable food systems.

In 2025, Max added a new dimension to his work—farming. Now, through The Best Route Farm, Max grows fresh produce specifically to serve his mobile market and local farmers markets, where customers can spend FMNP checks and other benefits. His mission: to make sure more neighbors in and around Pottstown have access to healthy, affordable, and locally grown vegetables.
